First Class International Tennis in Panama

From April 1st through the 8th of this year the 2017 ATP Visit Panama Cup will be held in Curundu, Panama City, at the Fred Maduro Tennis Center.  During this tournament, professional tennis players will compete for cash prizes and ATP ranking points as part of the 2017 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger professional tennis circuit.

This year’s clay court competition will be tough with four of the players ranked among the top 100 tennis players in the World. Ranked 73 in the World, Horacio Zeballos (ARG), won his first pro tennis title in 2013 at the VTR Open in Chile where he defeated Rafael Nadal in the Finals, becoming one of only 4 players (with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray) to beat the former World No. 1 in a Clay-Court Final.

Two other strong competitors will be Rogerio Dutra Silva (Brazil) and Victor Estrella Burgos (Dominican Republic) ranked 85 and 91 respectively. Dutra Silva won the first ‘Visit Panama Cup’ in 2012 and will be competing in this year’s event. Victor Estrella Burgos is the highest ranked Dominican player in history.  In 2014, Victor Estrella Burgos reached the second round in his first US Open tennis tournament. Other players to watch include Nicolas Kicker (ARG), ranked 100 and the current ITF Junior World Champion, Miomir Kecmanovic – Age 17- (SERBIA).

The Visit Panamá Cup is a tennis tournament that has been held in Panama since 2012. The event is part of the ATP Challenger Tour and is played on clay courts. This event is the springboard for the future stars of professional tennis. For the young and upcoming players the Visit Panama Cup of the ATP Challenger Tour will be an excellent opportunity to develop their talents and to fight for vital ATP ranking points to qualify for the highest ranked ATP World Tour tournaments.
