31 Dec HISTORY IN THE MAKING
PANAMÁ: THE MUSICAL, an English-language roaring twenties musical with a Latin heartbeat opens on February 1, 2018 at the Ateneo Theater, Ciudad del Saber. The story of this musical takes place in Panama in the roaring twenties, a compelling era with an interesting juxtaposition of US military-controlled prohibition era, right next door to the delicious decadence of Cuatro de Julio. Exotic and compelling stuff!
International theater experts have been brought in to work with a Panamanian creative team to develop a world-class musical, including award winning dramaturge Robert McQueen – best known as Associate Director for Mamma Mia on Broadway. “Our creative team is also augmented by the legendary David Warrack, author of 66 musicals – including bringing Shenandoah to Broadway,” adds Brown. Warrack is working with Latin Grammy Award winning Panamanian Music Director Dino Nugent on developing and arranging the original score. Acclaimed movie actress/musical star Gaby Gnazzo says “I absolutely love the music in this show. I am so excited and proud to be part of this new musical about my country.” Gaby is joined onstage by musical superstars Randy Dominguez and Leonte Bordanea, under the direction of Monalisa Arias.
“While we expect English-speaking Panamanians to come to a show about their country,” says Brown, “this is the first commercial theatrical production targeted to tourists, visitors, expats and the cruise ship industry. Besides, all 10 Bern Hotels, Gamboa Resort, Playa Blanca Resort, and the Executive Hotel are signed on as authorized ticket sellers.
