International Fair of Azuero  

Locally advertised as “The last of the long list of Country Fairs taking place throughout Panama during the dry season” the International Fair of Azuero will run from April 20th to May 1st. This Country Fair, held since 1944 in the town of Los Santos, near Chitre, attracts people from all over the country, and is considered one of the major tourist attractions in the region.  

Under the slogan “Azuero, a Region in development”, the International Fair of Azuero in its 55th edition and will take place on an 18-hectare area. Over the years, this event has received more than 300,000 people. This year it is expected to receive more than 400,000 visitors, making it the best chance to know Azuero’s rich agricultural, livestock and industrial production, and also to enjoy food, music, and folkloric presentations, among other activities that keep drawing more visitors over the years. Besides, this event is famous for the traditional parades in the main streets of La Villa de Los Santos.

Just like the International Fair of David, this Fair is made up of nearly every type of business vendor. Local craftsmen to international corporations come to offer special prices for those ready to make a purchase. Craftsmen from all over the Country look for their space to exhibit their productions in mud, textiles, wood and paintings. Also, representatives from other countries presented during the event that offer interesting merchandise such as furniture, shoes and sandals in leather, jewelry, among others.

The fair is not just for fun and games. In general, Panamanian Fairs are also the place where deals are made and the latest products are sold. Houses, bank loans, cars, tractors, furniture, appliances, clothes, plants, seeds, livestock, hats, boots, hammocks, and more can be found in this place. Every year people wait until the day after the fair closes and enter in with pick-up trucks to make a few purchases at rock bottom prices.
