PANAMA CONSOLIDATES AS THE HUB OF THE AMERICAS

Air Europa recently launched the direct flight that connects Madrid and Panama City from the Tocumen International Airport, consolidating the airport’s position as one of the most important air terminals in Latin America due to the number of destinations and passenger traffic handled. This information was delivered by former President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, during the arrival of Air Europa’s inaugural flight to the country. With this latest flight Panama reinforces the country’s position as the Hub of the Americas.

The airline will have four weekly frequencies flying from Panama, reinforcing its presence in Central America, since the company has teamed up with Copa Airlines to allow shared code travel. In addition, the airline will provide to Copa Airlines’ passengers arriving into Madrid the possibility to connect with over 23 domestic destinations, as well as 15 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, which represents an alliance between Panama and Spain that will benefit aviation, tourism and the development of both nations.

For Juan Jose Hidalgo, president of Globalia, “Panama was a pending issue and today is a reality”. These results encourage the company to increase the frequency to a daily flight in the near future. “I only have words to thank all the people who made this flight possible and the government of Panama for the support,” said the Air Europa executive. Air Europa Líneas Aéreas is the main airline with Spanish capital that in 2018 transported more than 12 million passengers to 50 destinations around the world. As a member of Skyteam, passengers can visit more than 1,000 cities of the alliance, in addition to the airline’s own destinations.
